Excerpt from Rachel White Interview
'What’s behind the name ‘Full Metal Alchemist?’
As well as it being my favourite anime of all time, alchemy is the science of understanding matter, breaking it down and then reconstructing it as something else. In terms of my music, I feel like I broke down my old mixtape into its raw components and then reconstructed it into music from a completely new artist.
Give us a break down of your new mix-tape.
I’d say the most distinctive aspect of it (and the part I’m most proud of) is that every track carries a very strong and unique concept, and I don’t mean ‘its hard on the roads’ and ‘we got to make it’, real well thought-out concepts. Another thing is the production. most producers only got one track on there each, so the sound and style of each song is very diverse, there’s also a lot of different influences in the songs too, so it may not be as simple as deciding if a certain track is either grime or hip hop, but rather is it grime, hip hop, rock, indie, funk etc'
