FKFJ.™ is a collective brand name for visual eye candy solutions by Fernand Kwasi-Frimpong Jnr. Born in south London in 1990, Fernand is a prolific self taught graphic designer. Specialising in flash web design and image manipulation, FKFJ has grown to be one of the top graphic design agencies in London.

History

(taken from the FKFJ Website) "I suppose I started designing things waaaay back in 1998 (yup, when I was 8) when I jus made random signs for people, and in my school as well - I jus loved drawing and makin publications, and I always criticsed peoples work when I thought it wasnt all that great. I was young back then, so of course competition had a grip on me, and I always had to step up my game.

In 2002, in my second year of secondary school (St Josephs's College for liife!) I noticed they didnt have a website. Well they did, but it was a London Grid for Learning one so it didnt count. I decided to volunteer and make my schools website - and of course back then my work wasnt all that great, using standard backgrounds off the internet and Frontpage templates to just rip and use. Later on in 2003 when I was jus browsing the net for java applets to make my schools website and others look good, I stumbled on SWiSH Max which is a flash authoring software - kinda like Macromedias own Flash MX but slightly easier to use. I was stunned at the effects it had so i downloaded the 14day trial and messed around with it. When it was over I knew that Flash (for me) was the way to go. My school's website is here.

7 months or so later, I got Photoshop CS and to be honest, I didnt like it. I didnt know how to use it! I was used to using Corel Draw 11, software my dad used to make his labels for his drinks company, and it is like Photoshop in a way, but it deals more with vectors. It wasnt till November 2004 when I started messing around with it again and I thought, yeah I like this a lot! Thru teaching myself and fantastic places like Good-Tutorials.com, my knowledge slowly improved and so did my interest in graphic design.

I kicked off with making customised pics for people (portfolio showing all this coming soon) and I used it to just mess around with other publications. I also used it for the backgrounds you see on this site.

So basically, from a young age Ive always loved designing, and I just keep gettin better. :)"

Technique

Fernand's style has been one of much debate and inspiration to others. In a recent interview, he said:
"I suppose I try to make them as personal as I can - really make it theres. IF you look at other productions theyre all samey: just change the pictures on one and you have a universal copy. The colours I use right down to my trademark FKFJCaptions make it theirs, and its timeless."
